The NBKR Public Reception Office Answers Your Questions

Question: In many retail sale sites as well as in shuttle mini busses, 1, 10, 50 tyiyn bank notes are not accepted referring to the National Banks instruction. Is it true that the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic prohibited accepting them?

Answer: On October 11, 2007, the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic Board adopted the resolution No.44/3 “On termination of bank notes issuing of 1993, 1994, 1995 year pattern (I and II bank notes issue)”. It is said that from January 1, 2008, the NBKR and commercial banks terminate issuance of 1, 10, 50 tyiyn bank notes; 1, 5, 20 som bank notes (of 1993 year pattern) as well as banknotes of the II issue with 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 nominal (of 1994 year pattern) and 100 som bank note (of 1995 year pattern).

All market participants of the Kyrgyz Republic should accept above-mentioned bank-notes and render them to commercial banks, where they are served. Commercial banks in their turn should accept and exchange those bank-notes from legal entities and individuals without limitations, because all above-mentioned bank-notes are not prohibited and not recalled from circulation; these bank-notes are still payment instruments without time limitation. All accepted banknotes of the I and II issues from the population should be formed into wads or rolls (as with shabby bank notes) and rendered by commercial banks cash departments to the NBKR institutions cash departments.
