The Center for Economic Research conducted an investigation "Impact of remittances on household expenses structure in the Kyrgyz Republic"

Based on the results of data analysis of 2,822 households received within the framework of the survey "Life in Kyrgyzstan for 2010-2012", the experts of the Centre concluded that the families living in Chui and Osh regions receive large amounts of remittances, and the families living in Naryn region receive the smallest amounts of remittances.

Remittances received by the respondents are primarily intended to purchase non-durable (food products and clothing) and durable (furniture, household appliances, cars) goods. Meanwhile, based on the answers of the respondents, these remittances are mostly spent on various festive and ritual activities rather than on health and education. Moreover, remittances are hardly invested in private business.

According to the experts of the Center, a decline in remittances in 2015 by 27 percent compared to 2014 will have an insignificant negative effect on the household expenses in the near future. For example, the expenses for purchase of durable goods, construction and holding festive and ritual activities is expected to decrease.
