The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic is launching a series of education projects within the framework of activities on improvement of the population financial literacy, as well as for the purposes of detailed insight into peculiarities of the central bank operation. Special events among which workshops, trainings, round-tables and meetings with the NBKR Management Board will be regularly held and include lectures and discussions of topical economic and financial issues with journalists.

Zina Asankojoeva, the NBKR Chairman: “The National Bank has been carrying out such activities for many years. Nowadays, possessing basic knowledge of the financial literacy is a ticket to well-being for the citizens; however, it defines economic development of the whole country as well. In this regard, explanation of the basic principles of monetary policy, banking activity and other processes is very topical and much-in-demand. We see it judging by numerous requests of the journalists received by the National Bank every day. I hope that round table meetings with mass media representatives participating in it will assist in preparing materials for this theme. Currently, we have a common objective, which consists in contributing to improvement of financial literacy of the population so that our citizens would be aware of the basic principles in the sphere of economy and in applying up-to-date financial products they could make independent choice and improve their quality of life”.

The National Bank together with the Academy of Management under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic held the round-table meeting called “The Importance of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic” for the journalists on September 30. The representatives of the National Bank Management Board and heads of the NBKR structural divisions participated in this event. The latter were the lecturers having prepared presentations on monetary policy, banking supervision and development of payment systems in the republic. According to the journalists, the speakers managed to deal with this task and presented the information in the simplest way, while the informative part of lectures was very useful. With regard to the themes of the workshops, the journalists expressed their wishes to know more about gold and foreign currency reserves, cash turnover, credit operations and supervision over banking institutions.

Improvement of the financial literacy among the population is one of the priorities in the activity of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic. Currently, purposeful work is carried out in this direction. Thus, the program “The National Bank informs” is broadcasted every week on “Birinchi radio” (“The first radio”) in the Kyrgyz and Russia languages, the program with the same name is broadcasted on the channel “ElTR” every month. Each of such programs covers the topical issues related to the activity of the National Bank.
